Enjoy More Happiness With Awe

If you want to feel better, don't forget about the power of awe!

When was the last time you experienced awe?

Awe is a powerful tool to experience more growth, goodness, truth, and beauty.

It even has real positive effects on our health and well-being.

In case you didn't know, here are 4 fun researched-backed facts about awe:

  1. Awe can reduce stress:

Studies have found that when people experience awe, their levels of cortisol (a hormone associated with stress) decrease. This suggests that awe may have a calming effect on the body.

  2. Awe can increase positive emotions:

Experiencing awe can lead to feelings of wonder, amazement, and gratitude. These positive emotions can have a range of benefits, including improved mood, increased social connection, and greater resilience in the face of challenges.

  3. Awe can improve physical health:

Some research suggests that experiencing awe can lead to improved physical health outcomes. For example, a study of patients recovering from heart surgery found that those who watched a video of nature scenes (which induced feelings of awe) had shorter hospital stays and required less pain medication than those who watched a neutral video.

  4. Awe can promote prosocial behavior:

Experiencing awe can increase feelings of connectedness to others and promote prosocial behavior. For example, one study found that people who watched a video of awe-inspiring natural scenes were more likely to volunteer their time to help others than those who watched a neutral video.

Want to experience more awe today?

Give this a try:
Take a moment to go outside...

Look down at the patch of grass you are sitting on.

And consider this…

Here, on one of the most beautiful planets in our solar system

We can look down and experience a one-inch by one-inch piece of land.

In that tiny patch of land, we can bear witness to more life than we can even perceive with our own two eyes.

What I mean by that, is that we can see the grass that is alive. An ant crawled through that patch of grass, maybe a bee buzz by, and some other little random bug crawled amongst the soil.

And underneath that there is most likely a worm hanging out, eating something else in the soil.

And in that soil, there are also organisms and bacteria that we can not even see without a microscope.

So when we look down, there is more life in that one-inch by one-inch patch of grass, than in entire areas of the cosmos.

Now when you look back up, imagine how much distance is between you and that amount of abundant life.

According to our scientists today, we don’t even know of a single planet that has that much abundance.

That means at almost any time, you are surrounded by more life than millions, if not billions or trillions of miles in the distant cosmos.

This really means you are surrounded by abundance all day long, and it’s just sometimes we choose to limit our perception of it.

So hopefully not only will you experience awe when you look up at the stars, but also when you look right beneath your two feet.
